Lost and Found: Treasures of Adelaide Gaol Exhibition and Market

Do you have an ancestor with a criminal past? Come and discover their story.

Sunday, 17th May 2020 10am-5pm.

Once thought lost, the rediscovered volumes of Adelaide Gaol Registers A and B were recently recovered by State Records of South Australia. As some of the states earliest paper records, they include prisoner details written by the first Governor of the gaol, William Ashton, and date from 1848 to 1857.

For one day only Adelaide Gaol, in partnership with State Records, will display these, along with other registers and original gaol records.

The gaol will also be hosting an acquisition market on the day with the hope of unearthing and learning more about the objects and stories of the states history with your help. Many locals have ties to the Gaol and have collected artefacts over the years. If you would like to return an item or share a story, the market will be held at the front of the gaol and will be open to all.

Standard entry fees apply to view Registers A and B.
