Self-guided Adelaide tours

Find your own way around Adelaide Gaol to discover the hidden stories of South Australia's criminal past, with one of Adelaide's most popular tours.

From early prison life to the Adelaide Gaol's closure in the late 1980s, there were many remarkable characters who once populated this intriguing place so it's well worth learning via your self-led Adelaide tour.

What people say about Adelaide Gaol:

The self guided tour is well documented with clear narrative signs in many areas and it is interesting to note that the gaol functioned for almost 150 years from the mid 1800s. Many people were hanged at the facility and normally buried in the surrounding grounds. Some of the stories about the inmates make fascinating reading and are a good illustration of the hardships encountered in the early days of settlement in Adelaide and surrounding areas.

We stopped by the Gaol today and did the self guided tour. It is so informative and we both loved learning all about the place and some of the prisoners. Highly recommend!!! We spent about 3 hours there and it was really affordable.
